Understanding the World We Live In

At Donburn Primary School, our Humanities curriculum is a journey of discovery into the diverse tapestry of Australian society, global cultures and the intricate dynamics of our local and global environments. Through engaging lessons in History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship and Economics and Business, students not only learn about significant events and influential figures but also explore the characteristics of different places worldwide. They delve into concepts like sustainability, interconnection, and societal change, gaining a deeper understanding of how these elements shape our world.

At Donburn Primary School, our Humanities subjects make learning about the world an exciting adventure! Students dive into Australian culture and society, explore global cultures, and investigate the local and global environment. This journey helps them sharpen their understanding of how the world works and its fascinating history.

Following the Victorian Curriculum, we focus on the following four key areas.

Geography

building comprehension, stamina, and a love for literature, with regular teacher meetings to set and achieve goals.

Civics &
Citizenship

We teach Australia’s democracy and how to participate in it, helping them understand their rights and responsibilities.

History

Student's use concepts like place, space, environment and more to understand how our world works and how we interact with it.

Economics
& Business

Economics and Business introduces students to the decision-making processes in personal, local, national, regional and global contexts.

We are a proud leader in academic performance across Victoria.
